Brooklyn, New York
This is one of the City’s first ‘on-site’ day care facilities, meant to provide child-care for parents who work at the BAT. The Center serves a total of 75 children ages 3-5, and is comprised of four classrooms, multi-purpose room, commercial kitchen, staff offices with lounge, and an unusual 1000 s.f. indoor play area with 24’ high ceilings. Built along a former train track bed, the indoor play area boasts full wall murals and a large window-wall leading to the outdoor playground. The 3200 s.f. outdoor playground has encorporated the former loading dock as a raised porch, and includes a variety of play equipment for different age groups. The project was given a 1995 design award by the NYC Art Commission.
