Hughes Avenue

Bronx, NY (2007 - 2011)

This irregular through-block site was solved by configuring a two-story mass facing Hughes Avenue and a five-story volume facing Belmont. Entry is gained through the arcaded two-story mass containing the public rooms of the building, including an ample dining room opening out to a landscaped courtyard. These public spaces are linked via a glazed bridge to the double-loaded volume holding the 55 studio units.

Hughes Avenue is one of a family of six new supportive housing residences which have similar building programs and share a common feature: they all adapt to irregular 'remnant' urban sites.
